GETTING TO ISLESBORO ISLAND

map_mapquest1.gif

WHERE IS ISLESBORO ISLAND?

Islesboro is the largest island in Penobscot Bay, Maine. This part if the coast is known as "mid-coast." Islesboro's largest neighboring towns on the mainland are Rockland, Camden, and Belfast. The capital city of August is to the west, one hour from the Lincolnville ferry. Portland is 100 miles south, a 2 hour trip (give it much more time in the middle of summer!)

GETTING TO ISLESBORO

The ferry terminal is in Lincolnville. You can get to Lincolnville from either Camden or Belfast. In mid-summer, Route 1 can get VERY busy and slow... Look for the backroads to Lincolnville for a nice, scenic option.

ISLESBORO ISLAND NEIGHBORHOOD

Islesboro is reached by a State of Maine ferry that leaves Lincolnville hourly in the summer months. Lincolnville is 10 miles, or about 15 minutes, south of Belfast; and 6 miles, or about 10 minutes, north of Camden. Camden, arguably Maine's finest harbor town, is minutes north of Rockland, home of the Farnsworth Museum, a little known treasure showcasing the Wyeth family artists, among other New England and American greats. The red bubble marks the location of Crow's Nest Cottage - - "up island," on Meadow Pond Road.

Our street address is 1099 Meadow Pond Road.

ON THE FERRY

The ferry ride across Penobscot Bay takes a quick 20 minutes across a spectacular stretch of water. You'll want to catch all the views from the upper deck of the ferry. Lock your door and head up the stairs. Before you know it, you're on the island. Read our FAQ to learn more about the ferry protocols!
